This excellent restaurant was opened by Andy Rae and his business partner Bob McCoubrey, the man behind the original Mourne Seafood Bar in Dundrum, Co.Down. The guys have their own seafood beds in Carlingford Lough, and the Belfast restaurant has a well stocked fish shop.
The restaurant is beautiful, with rustic old red brick walls, simple tables and great big black boards with all the days' specials. It's all the better for avoiding the trendy designer look, everything is homemade and the menu changes daily according to the catch, and always offers great value for money.
The restaurant doesn't take bookings for lunch, so it's first come, first served. In other words go early as there is often people waiting to get in just before opening at noon.
Service is discreet and friendly, we've visited several times now and would highly rate this place on all scores. It's great that Belfast has finally got a top class seafood restaurant.
Seats 75 and has a private room which seats 30. Mastercard, Visa and Maestro / Switch are accepted. See website below for opening times.
They've been nominated for the UKTV Food 2008 Food Heroes Competition - and get our vote. Check out www.mourneseafood.com for more information.
The restaurant is right in the centre of town, turn off Royal Avenue onto Bank Street, and the restaurant is next to Kelly's Cellars on the left.
